What can we expect from a session with Starting Point Tutoring?
At the heart of what we do, is your child, your family, your goals. Their confident approach to learning matters to all of us! I intend on building into that by rewarding effort, encouraging their strengths and setting goals for where they’d like to be. We understand the need to build trust, communicate with and set expectations for your child. Before each session, you and I will connect on what you would like your child to focus on. If you have curriculum expectations you are working to meet, I am happy to get those subject matter introduced. Our time together will be focused, intentional and directly in line with pre-determined topics. We will provide updates on learned material and areas of focus for your student. We are always open to feedback, so let us know how things are going!
Where are the tutoring sessions held?
Our sessions are held in a home setting. You will be able to see the learning space when you drop your child off. It’s open, quiet and has lots of natural lighting! For our exact address, please email us at startingpointtutors@gmail.com.
My child has a friend who would also like to tutor with Starting Point! Do you offer partner or group-learning sessions?
Each child’s learning style is different. For some learners, they engage and absorb content best when working peer-to-peer. Some prefer direct, one-on-one learning from their instructor. Starting Point Tutoring sees value in both of these settings. We offer group (3 students), partner (2 students) and individual tutoring sessions. If you have classmates or friends that are looking for additional support in the same academic areas as your child, please request partner or group sessions directly! I have seen wonderful and unique learning opportunities when students encourage their peers.
Is Starting Point Tutoring an approved vendor with my Charter School?
Starting Point Tutoring is currently an approved vendor for:
Cabrillo Point Academy
Mountain Vista Academy
ILead (pending)
What grade levels does Starting Point serve?
TK-8th grade
What does my learner need to bring to their sessions?
We have all the resources they will need! All the school supplies are stocked, the prize box is overflowing and I will have a binder with their name on it! The ONLY thing they will need to bring, is any specific work that they would like to work on together! If you’d like me to keep certain work here, I am happy to store it in their binder so you don’t need to remember it week-to-week!
Does Starting Point Tutoring have their own curriculum or are we able to have you work with our student on meeting charter specific requirements?
This is such a great question! Maybe you need help developing a personal curriculum in line with your child’s needs. Something like: sight word recognition, phonemic awareness, spelling support, creating a love of reading, math facts- all the things! Maybe you have charter curriculum that requires them to complete certain tasks and you’d like outside support…Let’s be honest, your child hears your voice the most. You are advising, feeding, guiding, loving, correcting, redirecting and sometimes…*demanding*. I am here to be a different voice and to stand in on your behalf. Sometimes, it is necessary! I have been there!!
What is your cancellation policy?
Things happen! Especially where children are involved. Should you need to cancel your session, please do so with in 24 hours before your session time (ie. usual session time is Monday, 9 am- please try to cancel by Sunday, 9 am). If you have something urgent pop up, or a suddenly sick kiddo, and it’s outside the 24 hour window, please text Stacee directly at (714-306-3469). Make-up sessions will be available if cancelled prior to 24 hours before your original session time, or at the discretion of Starting Point Tutoring.
How do I schedule a make up session?
Rescheduling sessions and requesting make-up sessions is a fantastic use of resources. We are all about you getting the most out of your sessions. Make-ups will be issued if cancellations occur 24 hours prior to the original session time. Please schedule your make-up session within 30 days of your original session date. If you miss the 30 day window, it will be considered a “no show” and will result in the loss of the session.
Oh no! I totally forgot I scheduled a make-up class and didn’t show up! What are my options?
We offer one “oopsie” for no shows (because, c’mon…we’ve all been there). Once the “oopsie” has been used, and you “no show” for a make-up class, the class cannot be made-up.
Can I schedule a make-up session during my usual day and time, even if my 4 pack session has ended?
Preferably you will roll your make up day into the week following your last session, with the same day and time. In the off chance another student has taken your time slot, after your 4 weeks are up, you can reschedule on days and times outside of your usual schedule! Just reach out to Stacee at (714)306-3469 for our list of openings.
If I’m early to our session time, am I able to drop my child off with Starting Point Tutoring at that time?
I want you to get the most out of my time with your child. In order to do that, I need to ensure the distractions are down to a minimum! As much as I will undoubtedly adore your student, please plan to drop off and pick up ON TIME. The sessions are typically scheduled with only a few minutes of margin in between, and I would hate to lose any time with my students! Thank you so much for partnering with me on this!
